We have new D640 printer since last year.

First huddle was no spool from MPE/IX ,still I do not have answer

Second, I experiment with PCL, and I found out trick(?),
print out font test from this printer and duplicate escape sequence
to orientation,font size, pitch, duplex or simplex.
 just use text editor with "display function on" and
start duplicate whatever in print out of font and keep
with environment file name.
rule is start with small letter and end with capital character.
and you have to change PJL support to "NO"
sample wide.hpenv.sys
esc = escape character
esc&l1sesc(s0p16.670s0bT

I guess these environment file send some escape sequence to
this Network printer then print text not like old 2680A printer.

Just my $.02
