Just by comparasion, HP-UX went from 10.0 to 10.01 to 10.10 to 10.20 then to
11.0, but also had 10.2x and 10.30 as vendor/need/pull only type releases
along the way (and these show up from time to time in patches and
documentation). There is also the s800 vs s700 distinctions, which is
getting silly since those model numbers are used any more on the names of the
systems. Patches are numbered apparently sequentially and individually. The
MPE Express release is kinda like a move from 10.10 to 10.20. A Powerpatch
doesn't exist, although they are experimenting with bundling of patches
under, I think, a OS+date type naming scheme, but it is treated as a large
patch and does not change the HP-UX version number. This works because
nobody in HPUX land expects to fully describe the version being run by the
simple version number - i.e. you *have* to list the patchs, but we all expect
CSY to do better than this for MPEers.

To support the concept of Powerpatch, it seems to me HP should reflect that
in the end of the version number. E.g. 6.00.00 is the released MPE/iX 6.0.
Express releases and any interim release (like 5.5) should change the middle
number, like 6.01 or 6.20. A Powerpatch should change the 3rd number, such
as 6.00.03.
