It should be safe, BUT as they say 'once bitten, twice shy'.

Back in the days of the Classic 3000, when Vesoft were adding new things to
MPEX with every release, we had the situation where a new listf mode arrived
with the same name as one of our custom ones. It caused major damage to our
overnight run before we discovered what had happened.

The method I suggested was developed to prevent this type situation from
happening again. It is also a method that I've implemented whenever
adding/replacing programs in a package solution.
