I sort of remember the "SP" was for spooling capabilities. I think that
the ALLOW command was not implemented yet, and therefore the "SP" was to
provide a user with the ability to control their spooling domain. "OP"
was far to powerful to allow all users to have.

I have been around far to long, I even remember when the HP3000 allowed
only one printer (very early 80's) and it had to be hardwired to the
system. At that time I developed a system whereby allowing remote sites
to have their own printer at their own site. My spooling system would
allow as many printers as permitted ports and would constantly direct
data traffic to the appropriate pseudo printers. All this was written
in good old SPL. A few years later, I did the same type of development
using Speedware.

Anyone have any application development memories they want to share?

>Now that Paul raises the possibility of "SP" being a holdover from the classic days, it seems to me there was a capability associated with spooling. A user with SP capability could do things like SUSPENDSPOOL, RESUMESPOOL, STARTSPOOL, etc. Again, this is a vague memory and may be a figment of my imagination. Perhaps someone with some old Classic manuals could add some clarity...
