OK, admission up front - I feel dumb for not knowing this, but....

I'm trying to ftp a file with a name in the form:

a.file.name.with.many.components

unfortunately, since I'm trying to download into the 8.3 type filename, ftp
is having a problem. The question is, how do I specify a different name for
a file on my PC? In other words, how do I download
a.file.name.with.many.components into a file called stuff.dat?

One of the great benefits of asking in a forum lilke this is that you can't
see my blushes!

Tony

PS Microsoft FTP with mstcp-32 for WfWg, Trumpet 2.1f
