The big VMS issue for years has been that Compaq refuses "market VMS the way
it deserves" and they've been hoping that HP would change this and finally
"free VMS to succeed", that sort of thing.

Sound familiar?

I suspect for HP management it's going to be like deja vu all over again :-)
