Dilbert: If I start the project today, and work nights and weekends, it will
take...oh, six months.
PHB: It has to be done in one month so we can show it to our VP on her
annual visit.
Dilbert: I have to know. Does it even cross your mind to handle this
differently?
PHB: I'll need daily status reports on why you're so behind.

Ah yes, Fred, those were well spoken words, and ones that I used to live
by (and wished I still could). The problem nowadays is that getting the
program done when someone up in management said it'd be done is far more
important than whether or not the program does what I set out to have it
do.

Sigh.

This is a worthy goal.

Obviously, some people get "closer to the goal"
than others. Perhaps one has to have a genetic
predisposition towards "neatness" and "closure",
in addition to a vast knowledge of the kinds of
conditions that MIGHT happen, in addition to good
programming skills (and personal discipline) to
actually implement the required labor-intensive
if-the-else structures.

When all is said and done, it is important to
remember that these ideas apply to ANY operating
system and to ANY programming language.

Enjoy,
