thanks, I'll give that a try and see what happens

several years ago I mentioned to a local friend (who worked for a telecomm 
company) that I was looking to acquire an hp3000 for my computer collection.  He 
said his company had one and I could have it.  I hauled ass over there but was 
rather dissapointed to find out that it was not a 3000, but a 9000.  I took it 
anyway.  Its been sitting quietly in a corner of my den for 5+ years and I 
finally decided to either get it to work, or scrap it and make room for 
something more useful, like an Amstrad ppc 640 ;-)

If you turn the terminal off, then hold down the "D" key and turn it back on, it 
will set the terminal to the defaults.   You should also hear a beep?   But then 
my memory is fading fast.
