I might be able to help you, but I would need to know what tools you
have. Do you use QUIZ?

What modules of ASK are you using? OMAR, MFG?
I usually send my data in fixed format to my HPUX and use Sybase
utilities to load the Sybase database. I extract with various tools
including QUIZ and SUPRTOOL.

I've been given the challenge of extracting data from an ASK system
running on
an HP 3000 which runs MPE. I've found that trying to get the data we'd
like
out of the system can, at times, be very difficult (to put it lightly).

Ideally, I'd like to be able to extract the data that we need from the
system
and dump it into an Oracle database (our needs are for reporting only
-- I'm
not trying to create a OLTP system on my own). Then, as more
information is
entered into the ASK system, download changes on a nightly basis.

Due to my extremely limited knowledge of how ASK, MPE, or anything on
the HP
side of this equation works, I'm currently limited to runing reports,
sending
them to disk (which is more difficult than it sounds), and sending them
to a
local computer where they are then parsed. I'm sure there is a better
way to
do this, but, as I said, my lack of knowledge limits my choices.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might accomplish this? If
not,
does anyone know where I can find out some (hopefully not too much)
information about ASK and MPE?

By the way, is there a FAQ for this group?

Thanks,

Matt
