This has been bugging me since I saw it.... From this I'm assuming Art has
decided to shut down ORERUG. Personally I feel this is a bad thing to do.
The internet may have taken away some from the local RUGs, but I still think
they can be a valuable resource. I've offered my time to help ORERUG, I've
offered suggestions on how to make ORERUG viable.

It seems to me if there is money to be given away there is money to do
something for the local users. I don't think user group meetings have to be
expensive. We could use the facilities at our offices to help keep costs
down. The other issue is how to get people to the meetings... I think the
big thing is having topics of current interest. With the 3000, and the
computing world in general, changing so rapidly these days it shouldn't be
hard. Look to the topics that come up on this list often - Apache, Java,
Sendmail, Samba.

Finally, if the money must given away lets keep the money in the local
community. Northwest Nazarene may be a very good college, Art and Rich Trapp
both graduated from there, but it's in Idaho. The ORE in ORERUG stands for
Oregon, there has to be a worth while charity in Oregon to give the money
to.
