Hello Friends:
We just posted our weekly podcast on the NewsWire's free blog site
<http://3000newswire.com/blog> with our comments and reporting on
PA-RISC versus Itanium.
HP says its go-forward platform is Itanium, but three fourths of the
Business Critical server revenues are still related to PA-RISC.
Itanium is much faster than most PA-RISC servers you've encountered,
unless you have the latest generations of the PA-RISC architecture.
But this isn't a matter of speed for the 3000 site so much as a
matter of Integrity. HP is pushing its Itanium Integrity servers as
the primary vendor to be using the chip. It's a lot like the PA-RISC
days of yore, when HP wanted other companies to adopt PA-RISC and
broaden market share. Adopting Integrity/Itanium is a vote of faith
in HP's futures.
On the other hand, if you have HP-UX as your primary migration
objective, the choice should be a lot simpler. UX just doesn't have
any other processor platform extending into the future. The last
PA-RISC generation is already off the boards and onto the fab lines.
Have a listen to our podcast and let us hear from you about your
Itanium adoption. Post a comment out on the blog and be heard.
