DCE calls or sockets? Advice needed

We have four systems 2*hp3000 + 2*hp9000
 
On 1 of the 9000's we have a big database + application.
We use DCE to have pc's work with the application.
 
Now we want one of the 3000 to also do transactions with the application.
 
there are 2 options for communicating.
 
A>   Use DCE3000, a product I don't know
 
B>   or use sockets, which are at an even lower level,
     and I don't know either
 
I'm looking for people with experience in one of these solutions.
Who can advice me.
