: Modem Configuration

: it should, except for one thing: when you log off while connected over a
: modem, the carrier isn't dropped on the HP end; as a result the remote
: modem doesn't hang up. This used to work just fine on our classic
: system, but I can't figure out how to do it on the 927LX.

: The HP LaserROM is very sketchy on the meanings of the modem fields in
: NMMGR. (Sketchy overall, when it comes to NMMGR.)

: Here's my remote dial-in modem configuration:

: Line speed: 9600
: Record Width: 80
: Modem type: 1
: Modem behavior: 1
: Parity: N
: Speed sensing: N
: Reset HP term: N
: Harware shake: N

This config looks fine to me. I suggest you check the cabling between the
DTC port and the modem. The 25 pin DTC port does not have an RS232 profile as
the DTC expects DCD on pin 4 and outputs RTS on pin 8; so if you've used
a straight cable to connect the port to the modem, you may be inadvertently
strapping DCD high. The recommended cable for connecting a DTC port to a modem
is HP40233A.

: Ruggedwriter
: ------------
: On the same DTC, I have a Ruggedwriter connected. It's pretty
: temperamental and unspools itself a lot. On the LaserROM I saw that on
: the classic systems, you could use TTPCL26 as a term-type, which was
: best suited to the Ruggedwriter. The 927LX has no term-type files in
: pub.sys. It looks like you have to roll your own with TTUTIL. Before I
: wade into those murky waters, I'd like to hear from anybody who has a
: well-connected Ruggedwriter.

I've supported customers who have connected Ruggedwriters to the DTC and don't
remember any particular problems. However, there are many reasons why the host
will stop spooling a serial printer. You might want to check with the local
HP office that you have the latest DTS and DTC patches.

Hope this helps
