The Austin Rifle Club has over doubled it's membership (~1500 Texas Militia
Members,
AKA "people") since the current Federal Totalitarian Regime achieved power
in 1992.
Many other communities have seen a surge of interest in "being prepared" as
well.
The range is indeed packed most of the time--but only with members who have
been
trained/tested in Range Safety. BTW, The Supreme Court has ruled that the
US National
Guard is NOT a milita. It is a "Reserve Component of the Armed Forces of
the United
States". Its primary purpose is to insure that States do not get any
"uppity" ideas
about having their State Militias trying to "secure a free state". USNG
members are
NOT allowed to "keep" arms issued by the Federal Government (Unlike
Switzerland).
Try it, and you'll spend some time in a stockade. Also, I noticed some
confusion
in this thread about "powers" and "rights". Governments have enumerated
"powers",
whereas "people" have "rights". The Supreme Court has also ruled that the
word
"people" in amendments 1,2,4,9, and 10 refer to the same "people" -- not to
Government institutions -- such as the National Guard. The "people" are
citizens
of the United States not convicted of a Felony. Ever since Josh Sugarman
and
Sarah Brady started the hoax about the 2nd amendment awarding the National
Guard
the right to "keep and bear arms", the mass media has repeated that big lie
again
and again until some folks actually believe it's true (See "Mein Kampf" for
details
on the technique). The "rights" of the "people" predate the US
Constitution and
come from the English Constitution and Common Law. The Bill of Rights does
not
create any rights. It simply recognizes rights which shall not be tampered
with
("Infringed"). The US militia is defined by the US Code, and State
militias are defined
by their individual constitutions/laws. If you are male, 17-45, not
convicted of a
felony, sound of mind and body -- welcome to the U.S. Militia. Those who
have served
honorably in the US Military are required to serve until age 65. If you
should fail to
appear when called without bearing arms/ammo suitable for combat, you can
be
fined/imprisoned (forget about those "Hunting" and "Sporting" rifles/pistols
which
do not use current military caliber ammunition). I suspect females are now
"eligible"
for militia service as well due to enhancements to our laws in recent years
(haven't
seen a court ruling - yet).
