I'm not gonna touch the part about the state-of-the-art comment. I'm sure
that will be well covered in other replies. As far as moving data between
the HP 3000 and other platforms, I can say that there definitely is a
market. Quest has been successfully providing software solutions for
several years to move data either in batch or dynamically directly to other
systems in a heterogeneous environment. Lately there has been a surge in
demand for this type of solution. The requirements we have seen inlude
shops that:
1)Are migrating quickly off the HP 3000 and need a one-time data conversion
and load :(
2)Are migrating gradually off the HP 3000 and need a one-time transfer as
well as a coexistence period wherein the disparate systems are kept in synch
:|
3)Are not migrating and the HP 3000 will remain as the mission-critical
enterprise computing platform providing real-time data feeds to data
warehouses or decision support systems housed on less-capable systems :)
I will be happy to further discuss this off-list,
Allen Cintron

Subject: Migration from HP 3000
Hi all
What are the limiting features of HP 3000 as opposed to the OPEN systems on
offer today?
Is there a market for migration from HP 3000 to a more state-of-the-art
system like HP 9000?
Thanks in anticipation for any and all responses
