Just to help keep this thread going (in case there was any danger of it
dying), there can be no PROPER spelling of "disc." Things are too confused for
any easy resolution. English-speakers derive their spelling of disc from the
Romans' Latin root, "discus" (originally, a torodial quoit) -- who in turn
derived their word from the Greek word "diskos" (to throw).
Phonograph records and things you throw in the Olymics are uniformly spelled
"disc". Farm implements called harrows are uniformly spelled "disks".
Everything else seems to be up for grabs.
In the end, consistency is more important than "correctness," especially where
correctness is difficult to come by.
