I have "INSTALL"ed one of these tapes from HP. They are NOT "INSTALL" tapes
per se. They are actually update tapes that shorten the process of
installation. I did NOT loose all of the rest of the system.

Thanks Scott.

Huh? Saves a lot of time for who?

Are we having problems with terminology here? An INSTALL of 6.0 (the command
and not the colloquial usage) wipes out everything on your system - which
means a complete restore of everything including the accounting structure,
etc. Not a pretty thing to contemplate.

I've "installed" 6.0 on several 5.5 systems, but never did an INSTALL of it.

Not sure if this fits your experience, but this is what HP has done for us
in the past.

They create a CSLT on another system (one of theirs) which contains the FOS,
patches, and subsys. They then bring it in and do the install on site.
Saves a lot of time.

Thanks to my PSS dollars at work, HP will be coming out to upgrade
me
from 5.5 to 6.0. The interesting thing about it -- aside that for
once,
it is not ME doing the upgrade [whoohoo!] -- is that they are
insisting
that the process requires an INSTALL instead of an UPDATE.
("'Curioser
        and curioser'", said Alice".)

Well now, since the system is a test system (and they'll be the ones
making everything Be Happy), I don't mind much, but I was
wondering:
Does anyone know whether or not this a technical requirement, or is
is
        just preference on HP's part?

If an INSTALL really is required, why so?

        Thanks!
        Curtis
