I have a few PC's at home connected via a DSL to the internet. I use a
little box from LinkSys that acts as my router between the LAN and the DSL
modem. The box also acts as the firewall and DHCP server (static IP's are
also allowed.) The first one I had was a little flaky and tech support was
difficult but the replacement they sent has been working fine. I can't see
why the HP3000 wouldn't look like one of the other PC's in this arrangement.
The box cost under $200 and is called their Etherfast Cable/DSL Router
BEFSR41.

DSL is Digital Subscriber Line and comes in all sort of flavors, but
yes, it
allows for high speed connections over existing copper connections.
