We've been caught by a similar problem. Some of the new DDS drives will
read compressed and un-compressed tapes but will only write compressed
tapes. HP tell us that there is a switch you can set inside the new
drives but then the drive will _never_ write compressed tapes.

We use DDS tapes to distribute software and find that some of our
customers can no longer read our un-compressed tapes:-(
