If you're replacing it before it dies ... DON'T reload...replace!

There are several techniques available (free and otherwise) for
cloning an existing drive. There's the offline ODE : DISKCOPY (sp?),
and SYSDIAG's DTDCOPY (although both appear to be documented as
disk -> tape, I've heard reports they work as disk -> disk).
And, <plug>, De-Frag/X has a CLONEDISK command </plug>.

If you use an online disk->disk copy, then you'll have to mount the replacement
drive as a valid MPE/iX ldev (just don't try to add it into an
existing volume set...a LONER state is fine).

If you use an offline disk->disk copy, you'll have to mount the replacement
drive somewhere (i.e., SCSI/HPIB/HP-FL/whatever).

If you use an offline disk -> tape -> disk, you can avoid having to
connect the new drive at the same time as the old drive.

However you do it, cloning the existing (still usable) disk is a lot
quicker and safer than a reload!
