Howdy,

Well I'm finally more or less off the sick list and got some time to
test the various suggestions for my shutdown problem.

Got everyone off the system, killed all jobs, stopped the network,
stopped all spoolers, looked around to see that everything was
dead, then logged myself off, and did the =shutdown thing.  It
took 18 minutes before the system shut completely down by
deftly performing a system halt :-(  Oh well as I said before it doesn't
seem to harm anything other than my temper so I guess I'll just
leave well enough alone.
