Adager really come to my rescue last night. I had always heard about the
wonders of Adager (not only the product itself but also the support) and last
night it was proven to me.

A few months back an operator accidentally aborted a capacity change job (at the
time we did not have Adager). We had to restore our database from a backup.
While we did not lose any data due to Netbase/Shareplex shadowing, we did lose a
day of production (our redundant system could not support our production load).

Last night I was not thinking and I created a capacity change jobstream which
specified a capacity increase for a very large master dataset. The operator
called me to say that it was taking over an hour to finish (it would have run
for at least another 2 hours). When I realized what I had done I placed a call
to Adager.

Thanks to foresight by Rene' Woc at Adager (thanks Rene' !!) I was able to abort
the capacity job. When we first got Adager Rene' instructed me that whenever I
make database changes that I issue a APPLY CHANGES after each database command.
 In other words:
1. Open database
2. Issue command
3. Specify dataset
4. Apply Changes
5. Open database
6. Issue command
7. Specify dataset
8. Apply changes

and so forth.

Anyway, last night I called Adager (from home) and much to my pleasure Rene'
answered the phone. I went to office and called Rene' back (he was patiently
waiting). Rene' had me double check the jobstream to make sure it was safe to
abort the job. When we determined it was safe to abort the job I aborted it.
Rene' stayed on the phone with me until I determined that my application had
suffered no ill affects.

In summary, Adager allowed me to abort a capacity change job which is something
I thought was impossible. Granted, the job must be constructed in a very
specific manner but it was well worth it. While this may have been possible
with the product we were using previously (and other products), it was Adager
(specifically Rene') that told me how to construct my job stream so that this
would be possible. Like I said earlier, while the product is amazing, the
support is equally as amazing.

Adager is a product I fully recommend and suggest that everyone at least takes a
look at it.
