Terry,
We drive our 293x printers with the JetDirectEX (J2382) and a Parallel to
Serial Converter. It may not be the cleanest way to go, but in our case,
we didn't want any serial cables layed in our new building. All of our
printers are attached either by internal or external JetDirect's.

This is how we have it set up:

10-base-T   -->  JetDirect/EX (J2382)
JetDirect/EX  ->  Parallel adapter
                                (Inmac part# 0359-5
                                see note below)
Parallel adapter -> Parallel to Serial Converter
                                (Inmac part# H812350)
P/S Converter -> Null modem cable
Null modem cable -> HP293x printer

Not too pretty, but it works. We chose to use the parallel adaptor rather
than a parallel printer cable to keep the rats nest of cables to a minimum,
and because it has a female 36-pin centronics connector to fit into the
male 36-pin centronics connector on the parallel/serial converter - Most
printer cables have a male centronics connector which would require using a
centronics gender changer to get it connected to the P/S converter.

Hope this helps...

I was just told that there is not an external jet-direct box that supprts
serial printers. Can this be true?
I was under the distinct impression that I would be able to connect my
serial printers (2934, 2563,etc) to an external jet-direct box for use with
the "network printing" capabilities in MPE-iX 5.5.

Have I been asleep as the boat was leaving, or do I need to get another
source of information?
