Hello Nigel,

regarding www.sambaix.com, I seem to vaguely recall that
Michael Gueterman mentioned some time ago that he would not
extend the web site registration as it had not seen updates
for a very long time and because Samba/iX is now a product
supported by hp itself.

regarding XP and plain text passwords, you can either use
the same registry entry as with Windows 2000... as far as I
understand (and my PC seems to happily confirm this ;-)

Another option is to change smb.conf to use encrypted passwords
like documented for Samba on Linux or Unix. However, it will no
longer use the host passwords then. You will have to setup and
maintain a separate smbpasswd repository (file), which can be a
good or bad thing, depending on your needs and preferences.

Oh, if you want to go the regedit route... you can find .reg
files in /usr/local/samba/docs/Registry/*.reg which can either
be opened with notepad and applied "manually" or else be "run"
by double-clicking (to merge them to the registry).

Cheers, Lars.
