Hello all -

Just returned from the HPe3000 Transition tour event, Nov. 12 in the
Philadelphia area - very well put together. It was informative and
interesting, with a great deal of practical information intermingled with
some sales/consulting pitches. I would definitely recommend attending, if
you haven't already done so. The business and budget planning session
would be of interest to a CEO or IT manager with purchasing capacity; some
of the technical portions might be beyond their scope, but it could serve
to let them see where the money is to be spent.

I'd like to see more emphasis on the small shops' dilemna - we don't have
even a 'modest' $60K - $100K to put into this project at this time; perhaps
there's a niche here for a tool developer for the 'do-it-yourselfer' who
has extensive HP3000 background with at least some Unix skills?

I especially appreciated Alvina's mention of the 'HP-UX for MPE' online
courses. I'll be looking these over. As she noted, they are FREE and a
good idea even if just for the comparision.

The technical presentations from MB Foster, mbs, Speedware and Lund were
well done - lots of useful stuff. Thanks to all who presented! Looking
forward to receiving the slides on CD.

Finally - there was even some (brief) mention of OpenMPE! All in all - a
good day, IMO time well spent.

Connie
