Hmmm....A couple of furthur thoughts on Joe's solution.

The Scratchvol command within Volutil is specific to a ldev so the syntax is

Scratchvol 63      (as an example)

Once this is done the disc drive is now available to be moved to another volume.

Do a VSOPEN volumename to remount the volume set and make it available again

Restore the data from your tape.

Then add the disc drive to the volume that needs space using the Newvol command within Volutil

Syntax
NEWVOL  VNAME=  sname:vname
LDEV= ldev
PERM= percentperm
TRANS= percenttrans
CLASSES= (cname[[,,cname]...])

Be darn careful to do your homework to ensure you still have enough space to restore your data.
