Bah...an amendment written by amateurs :)

Actually, it would appear that he could run for VP, be elected VP,
and then have the President resign, leaving him President ... legally.
I.e., the amendment seems to in no way address the question of
how many years a person can serve as President ... it merely addresses
and limits the ability to be elected to the office.

That's why we need more programmers in Washington, and more lawyers
unemployed.

Bah...an opinion written by programmers :)

Since passage of the 20th amendment, a president that has served at least 6
years, cannot become president via the vice president route.

Amendment XII

< all but last sentence snipped >

But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall
be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

Since the 20th amendment makes a 6 year or longer president constitutionally
ineligible for the presidency, the 12th amendment makes him ineligible for
the vice presidency.

However, the way to get around that is a little harder, but possible. Just
become speaker of the house, and then liquidate the president and vice
president. Since you aren't elected president or vice-president again, the
12th and 20th amendments don't apply. For more fun, start at a lower level
of presidential sucession, like Secretary of Energy, and work yourself up.

Ghoulishly thinking,
