Run KSAMUTIL.PUB.SYS. This utility has a "verify" function which will allow
you to list the characteristics of the KSAM file. One of the values
displayed is FREMOVE. This item shows you the number of records that have
been flagged as logically deleted. Subtract this number from the value
called DATA RECS. This will give you the number of active records in the
file.

In addition, you can run the utility KSAMRBLD.UTIL.SYS to rebuild the KSAM
file to remove those records which were flagged as logically deleted.
