There are other ways that email addresses could be hidden.
(E.g., Raven's Listserv could mangle the submitter's email address
in some manner, and provide a password-protected means of
correlating the mangled name to the real email address.
E.g.: convert [log in to unmask] to foo_123 for the first post, foo_124 for
the next post, etc. Thus, my post might be from sieler_123.)
Personally, I know that if we move to forum-based, my
participation will drop by 90% to 100%. It just isn't worth
my time to poll the forum via a web browser. With email,
I see the 3000-L posts as they come in, and can answer them
fairly quickly (if appropriate :).
