Just to keep the world safe for proper modern Latin usage, parenthesis is the
singular form and parentheses is the plural form of the noun.
And to further increase the amount of useless information in the HP3000 world,
both of terms for the modern English symbols, braces { } and brackets [ ], are
derived from the Latin bracchium (pl. bracchia), meaning "arms."
Both Latin roots, bracchium and parenthesis, are of course derived from older
Greek words (brachys and parentithenai, respectively). Four thousand years of
history and tradition right there everyday at your fingertips.
See, not every posting is a waste of bandwidth :-).
