Wirt noted a follow-up from Gavin:

I noticed same if window on my PanaSync/Pro P17 was
not maximized....  I'm also running Acrobat Reader 4.05.

It was interesting to note that if you run Acrobat Reader from
"max zoom in" to "max zoom out" on the first page of the
QueryCalc ad example at full screen (17 "magnification stops"),
the "black line" problem only occurs on two intermediate stops
"in the middle".  All other views including both extremes come
out flawlessly...

One of the neat things about this method is that even at max
resolution (where for example the words "THIS FLYER" are
all that fit horizontally on my screen), the characters are
perfectly formed and "crisp".  It's also interesting that even at
the "third from the smallest" zoom setting (where the whole
page is only 1.6 inches by 2 inches), it is *STILL* possible
(barely) to read the words "QueryCalc" and "Realize the
Dream!"...  also, the green and red color rendition is very
good....

....  slick...
