Yes, because of delivery delays in my SMTP gateway, my previous
summary of the suggestions I had received about my AIF:PE question
did not include several "subsequent" messages. Among these were
Scott Gavin's recommendation of Quest's Netbase product and Stan's
suggestion (complete with sample code!) to dynamically load the DBGET
call. I am glad to hear the technique Stan described has worked well
for you. This is probably the course I will pursue.
I am most gratified to see the volume and quality of the responses
that this rather esoteric topic generated. I now have a variety of
alternatives to consider, as well as details about things to watch
out for if I decide to "roll my own" solution, all within a couple
hours of my original post. Thanks so much to all who have
contributed to the discussion, and TIA to anyone who has anything
further to add.

You may have missed Stan's alternative to dynamically load the DBGET
call from within the DBUPDATE handler. This works very well, and I
have used this technique sucessfully in several different products
(one very similar to yours). Stan even included an example.
