Why is there a "LOCK FILE" on the SCREEN statement?

For a screen with a single file there isn't much difference between
locking the file around the UPDATE procedure versus locking it around
the PUT verb. I'd get rid of this statement - but I doubt this is your
problem.

Does any other user have the file locked? Although I'd expect "can't
lock file at this time" as the message if this were the case.

Does your user have write access to the DATA group?

Try a LISTF ACCTK06D.DATA,-3 and look for anomalies.

Regards,
John

Subject: [HP3000-L] How to lock a KSAMXL file in POWERHOUSE QUICK

I wish to browse through a KSAMXL file that is defined in our POWERHOUSE
PDD
dictionary. As this is a casual requirement and the number of fields is
small
I tried to use the GENERATE statement in QDESIGN. While the temporary
screen
created thereby appears to work, in other words it accepts the F action
and
prompts for data in the correct index fields, it complains that the file
must
be locked when it goes to fetch a record.

Data access error. (REQUISITIONS*01)
THE FILE MUST BE LOCKED BEFORE ISSUING THIS INTRINSIC (FSERR 179)

I am too far removed from working with QUICK to see what is wrong here.
Does
anyone else see the problem? AND no, QUIZ will not suffice, I need to
make
changes to correct a small issue that Accounting has sent my way.
