I suppose I should drop in a bit of "historical perspective" on this
topic as reference to any newcomers who weren't around when the de-facto
ground rules were established for the list.

Vendor postings are welcome, especially when participating in a
discussion.  Even product announcements or updates are acceptable
and in general welcome given these guidelines:

* If you are recommending your own product in response to an inquiry,
  the <plug> product recommendation </plug> is appreciated.  It is
  simultaneously somewhat humorous and also allows us to keep a quota
  on <plug>s :-)

* Keep it short, and provide a pointer (a URL, e-mail address, etc)
  as to where to obtain detailed information

Similar guidelines apply to position available/wanted postings (keep
it short, provide a pointer) and "for sale" notices, except in the
latter case we don't want a weekly posting of your inventory :-)
