Your contact in Roseville may be right. As I recall when we bought our
917LX development machine (8 user), we had to purchase a 20 user NS
licence (now u get it for free!). At the time I could not comprehend
this inequality between hardware and software licencing, but coughed up
the hard earned (or my companies, at least). If in doubt, u can always
put it down to HP's marketing policies, however then I think it was
more a case of HP not giving due consideration to user based licencing
which was a divergence from their hardware licencing. You would expect
a S/W licence to match the hardware/firmware/MPE (or however you want
to view it) licence!

Subject: image/sql user license levels
Date: Wednesday, 4 September 1996 1:40

I am in the process of upgrading from a 950 to a 957RX.
The DAR withe the best bid has a system with a 64 user license.
I currently have a 100 user license and have only 10 jobs
and 10-20 user logged on and I do not anticipate any expansion
in my user base ( probably a little shrinkage ).

Two questions.

I was told by my former contract rep in ROSEVILE that image/sql
required a minimum 100 user license. If the system I am being offered
is indeed a 64 user system with image/sql then that is obviously wrong,
but I would like to hear that from from someone that has been there.

I seem to remember an from earlier thread that there is more
to user count than just jobs and sessions. I also remember from that same
thread that it can be painfully expensive to increase your user level
so I do not want to make a rash decision.

TIA -
