No way that that is the problem. I routinely put a space after the function name
for better readability, as the follow example shows:

DEVL MGR.SOURCE: IF FINFO ("CCCPHDN","EXISTS") THEN
*** EXPRESSION TRUE
DEVL MGR.SOURCE:     ECHO IT EXISTS
IT EXISTS
DEVL MGR.SOURCE: ENDIF
