As could be expected, some of these hits were for things like juMPErs and
staMPEd, but what makes this especially odd is that the "tips" for searching
give the example:

   The * character may used as a wildcard as part of a keyword. For
   example:

      java* will match both java and javascript

The example implies that without the *, 'java' would NOT match 'javascript'.
It appears that this is misleading, as shown by John's experience.
