You might want to give the HP 3000 Web Starter Kit a try as it
contains the ported NCSA httpd 1.3 server as well as the ported
Lynx 2.x (forgot exact version) and is pretty easy to install.

Find several URL's for downloading at http://www.hp.com/csy/europe

Well, no graphics, no JavaScript, no Java, no VBScript, no ActiveX
but text based pages work quite nicely. I even have used it to
download a patch from (the old) HPSL web site successfully (directly
into /tmp on my HP 3000.

There is basically one config file and several options (including
bookmarks). You probably should pick the Web Kit and give it a try.

By the way, it handles HTML forms (at least if they don't use the
lastest and greatest HTML gimmicks...)

A more recent web server port is Mark Bixby's Apache/iX which I
understand supports several advanced features like httpd process
pools (less fork overhead) and even FastCGI (if I recall ok).

Don't have his URL by heart. Check signature of his recent postings.

I have successfully mounted 3000 directories on a Windows PC
using Samba and then worked on the web pages using a PC based
HTML editor...

I leave this question for someone else ;-)
