Olav,
The reason I refer to my birthland, as you call it, as the Peoples Banana
Republic of Canada is because seeing it from the outside over the last 21
years has opened my eyes. When I lived in Canada, I was a staunch supporter
of a united Canada, now I think the only thing that would save Canada is to
have Quebec separate from it.

In Canada, you cannot be the prime minister, unless you are from Quebec.

In Canada, you have to accede to every stupid demand from Quebec, lest they
secede.

In Canada, the federal bureaucracy is composed largely, if not
overwhelmingly by Quebecers, especially at the higher levels. This was done
by the simple fiat of requiring virtually any position of consequence to be
filled by a bilingual person. These are disproportionately Quebecers.

The association between the Liberals at the Federal level and Quebec is even
cozier than say, Democrats in New Jersey. I will leave it to your
imagination to figure out what I mean by "cozy", but look at Power
Corporation and Desmarais, Strong and other people. If such associations
were found in the USA, these people would be run out of town, but in Canada,
that's fine with everyone.

In Canada, the prime minister can nominate a reporter and known terrorist
sympathizer as Governor General and have her confirmed without a peep from
anyone. When GWB nominated a non-entity to the Supreme Court, his own party
revolted and the nominee withdrew.

In Canada, only the CBC can produce TV news, other channels parrot it. If
you think the MSM is biased here in the US, you have NO IDEA what news bias
is, especially in Quebec.

In Canada, the government blames ALL the problems of the country on the USA.

In Canada, the constitution has a notwithstanding clause that effectively
renders it useless.

In Canada, the PM still refers to the country as a young country, full of
promise. I say Canada is no longer young, but it is still immature.

I could go on and on.

The thing that really bothers me is that Canada was once a proud country
with a commendable history. Now, it's just a banana republic.

I hope that explains it to you. As for your voting dilemma, my advice is
this: vote your pocketbook and to keep whatever rights you have left.

Denys

Denys:

I am not sure that you should be calling your birthland as the Peoples
Banana Republic of Canada.
I do know that we have some of the greatest monkies wanting to run the
country.

The Liberals can't be trusted (at least the current leader),
The Conservatives want to run the country as the United States of the North,
The NDPers don't know what they want, and
The Bloc wants to break apart the country.

WHO TO VOTE FOR ?

Olav.

It just goes to show that I do not sycophantically follow GWB. I am a
conservative, after all, I think for myself and I have my own beliefs and
opinions.

On the other hand, it seems that the voters in the Peoples Banana Republic
of Canada might have awakened from their coma, and may actually throw out
the most corrupt government on the planet. We shall see.

There are 2 quick and easy remedies to the corruption of the few:

1- Institute term limits. (BTW, are Democrats here happy to be
represented
by Ted Kennedy at the hearings this week? If this is not the poster child
for term limits, I don't know what is.)

Apparently not everyone agrees. See
