To Melvin, Alan, John, Carl, and Steve: Thanks for the replies.

Here are some facts I omitted the first time: We are running MPE/iX 5.5,
the DTC in question is a 2340A.

Now for an update: I called the supplier and their tech support people
walked me through a procedure to check the LAN address of the DTC. As
Alan wrote, you just hook up a terminal (or termulator) to Port 0, Slot
0, cycle power on the DTC, and when the LED display says 6x, press
Control-P. The DTC responds with a menu. Enter "L" for LAN address,
and it will ask for a password. The password I used was AVESTA (as in
Avesta Device Control Protocol), but I don't know if that's something
that's standard or not. Anyway, the internal LAN address (as reported
by this utility, did NOT match the LAN address on the back of the unit
(which was the one I used in NMMGR). I changed it to match, saved the
new address, cycled power again, and checked it again just to make
sure it was really changed.

Now, I can do a RESET DTC n in TERMDSM and I can see the DTC here
cycling through it's self test. However, I never get those messages
about DTC CODE DOWNLOAD STARTED and COMPLETED. The vendor's tech
support seem to think I should get them (as I do also). But the DTC's
LED's go to F2 (which means "Download completed"), so I tried the
DTC (using the terminal in the previous step). Sure enough, I can get
a prompt now. Hurray!

But that's only on Slot 0. On Slot 1, I get no prompt. Pressing
return just results in the terminal's cursor doing a CR/LF and
going to the next line. I saw this before when I misconfigured the
terminal profile as modem instead of direct connect, so I double-
checked the profiles and they are correct. I tried reseating the
Slot 1 card from the back of the unit, but to no avail. The vendor
is going to send me a new Slot 1 card, but what say you?

Anyway, 50% isn't so bad, especially since I only need 6 ports or
so right now.
