Didn't DLT actually originate at Digital Equipment Corporation?  I believe
the TK-50's (50MB)  were the start of it.  I think later as DEC split
divisions off, the DLT technology was acquired by Quantum.

Every thing I've seen recently says DLT is the only way to go.  DDS-5 will
never happen.  Its dead.  AIT may/or may not come back to life.  But DLT
has lots of room for growth.
