After everyone else, et. al. et. al. et al. etc. etc.

I must be the only one that did not receive a Subsys tape with mine.
Good or bad, I will offer my experience thus far, which will expand this
topic to "my experience of 5.5 -> 6.5."

In my typical "no guts, no glory" fasion, I decided to jump from 5.5 to 6.5
and in the last week of November ordered the PP2, known as Expr. 2. I
believe I ordered it on the first day of its release.

As I said before, the package arrived with only the Expr. 2 tape. I already
had a Subsys tape from a couple months earlier when I first ordered 6.5. It
came with a SLT, FOS, PP1 and Subsys.

So if there were changes in Expr 2. that necessitated a *new* Subsys tape,
that was not the case for me, <OR> HP blew it and did not include it...
(Wouldn't surprise me).

I upgraded from 5.5 to 6.5 and used the Expr. 2 in lieu of the PP1. My only
complaint during the process was in section 5.7 "Creating the CSLT", pg 122
where it says to enter the LDEV number of the device where you want the CSLT
to be created. I mistakenly thought I should also put in the blank tape and
was rewarded with the onslought of missing files as it really wanted the FOS
tape -- bummer. Don't make the same mistake I did; it already takes long
enough for the entire process.

5 days later, and all is okay, and may I add with the same ol' 1GB of
memory; I did not add the 4 add'l gigs that SMS wanted me to buy, just
because it has 4 processors. Our system load did not demand this overkill
of $$$. I'm sure if I had the extra memory, it'd be like a clean car and
run faster.

One gotcha that stumped HP's front line support - [I couldn't seem to get to
the "real" engineers] is a feature I've been clamoring for since I can't
remember. The "STD" feature; an issue which has gotten some airplay on this
list recently.

I don't own Turbo Store, and yes, I know STD (or Store To Disk as it's
called) has been requested under MPEKXR8e so eventually it will be in FOS.
Until then, I figured I'd invoke the Demo of TurboStore to take advantage of
the STD feature. But alas, no such luck. You're supposed to be able to
enable the demo as follows:

STORE ;;DEMO=START
To which it replies:
STORE/RESTORE VERSION C.65.05 (C) 1986 HEWLETT-PACKARD CO.

STORE ;;DEMO=START

TUE, DEC 5, 2000, 1:56 PM

TRIAL COPY OF TurboSTORE 7x24 IS ENABLED.
NEXT RUN OF STORE WILL GIVE FULL FUNCTIONALITY.

But then try storing something as in:
file t;dev=disc
store [log in to unmask];*t;show
and you get:
STORING TO A DISK FILE IS NOT AVAILABLE ON YOUR VERSION OF
STORE. YOU MUST PURCHASE TURBOSTORE/iX 7x24 TRUE-ONLINE BACKUP
TO GET THIS FUNCTIONALITY (S/R 822)

STORE aborted because of error. (CIERR 1090)

The RC dialed in and said this is a problem and would need to be submitted
as an SR.

So which will occur quicker, the inclusion of the patch into FOS, or the fix
to the Demo option?

Anyone else have any experience with this (STD or 6.5 upgrade)?
