It's being handed back in 1999. The Portuguese tried to give it back in
1965 and the Chinese refused it. The Portuguese next suggested that it be
handed back at the same time as Hong Kong, and the Chinese again refused.
Apparently, as the Portuguese were silly enough to sign up for 99 years
of overseeing a port city with no harbor, the Chinese are going to hold
them to every second of it. In 1999, the fireworks will be in Lisbon :-).
