Hi all,

We have gradually been accumulating a collection of 20-50MB disc drives as
we've upgraded computers and discs through the years. I haven't been able
to bring myself to throw away perfectly good disc drives, even if they ARE
so small that it takes three of them to hold Windows 95 :-).

I've finally found a good use for them. Our local science museum has
monthly "special event" days, and next month's is "Take It Apart!", the
purpose of which is to allow kids to take apart common household equipment
and see how it works. I called them and volunteered our supply of old disc
drives, and myself as explainer for them. They were delighted. (They'll
also have to take my two old answering machines and a small supply of $20
"Walkman" clones in various states of disrepair, but I haven't told them
that yet :-). I'm going to bring along a power supply so that they can see
the disc spin.

If anyone on the list has a similar accumulation of old disc drives, that
might be a good way to make them useful one more time. Hmm... maybe I
should take those two dead Eagles...
