OpenOffice has mail merge, forms, and a report writer using an extensive
number of data sources including most databases, spreadsheet files, and
others using a variety of connection methods including ODBC, JDBC, and
direct connections.  Macros can be written in a number of popular scripting
languages, and the source to OpenOffice is available for free allowing bug
fixing and enhancements internally, or can be submitted for inclusion in the
official source code.  PDF has been a well supported output file format for
quite sometime.

OpenOffice is overkill for a simple mail merge application.  But, if you
take advantage of all of its ability to create documents, spreadsheets,
presentations, database interface, extensive output formats, customization,
online support and documentation, etc., you will be getting a fantastic
