We had been running the unsupported version of SAMBA/iX 1.9.16p9 under 55
(thanks again, Lars). The data center admins upgraded our dev box to 60,
including the officially supported SAMBA/iX 1.9.16p9. Seeing that it is the
same version, we didn't expect any problems, but could only access a few
shares that used guest access. We would get incorrect password errors on any
share that had a user or account password for its user.
I understand that it is important that HPRC get these calls, so that they
know that companies are using SAMBA. Unfortunately, a call to HPRC did not
turn up any immediate resolution. An email to some of our list's SAMBA gurus
did. Michael Gueterman reminded me that SAMBA needs PM. Lars Appel reminded
me that the OS update runs SUPACCT job and resets to defaults (which is with
no PM for MGR.SAMBA). HPRC did email me the Adobe Acrobat file "Samba/iX
Services", and sure enough, it spells this out as part of running SAMBA:
Add PM Capability
To access share security modes, both samba and mgr.samba user accounts
should have PM capabilities.
1. Logon as manager.sys
2. Add PM capability to samba account
3. Add PM capability to mgr.samba user
An ALTACCT and ALTUSER later, I killed the pids for NMBD and SMBD, and
restreamed the jobs, and all was well. I thought that this small 'gotcha'
might be of interest to SAMBA users who plan to upgrade to 60, especially
for those who know that the manuals do not always get read.
