David,

We worked on this problem about three years ago with PH 6.09. At that
time, Cognos told us there was no JCW being set to indicate the max. number
of records condition. I don't know if the new 8.19 version sets a JCW or
variable for this condition.

We took a slightly different approach. We use ESPUL to scan $STDLIST files
and also to do network printing. We added the string "maximum number" to
the list that ESPUL uses to determine whether there was an error in the
job. If no error, the $STDLIST is archived otherwise it is both archived
and printed.

We realize our approach is not as good as detecting the condition and
aborting the job at that point. We tend to monitor file sizes and
periodically run MPEX EditChg "LIMIT 5000","LIMIT 6000" or whatever is
appropriate.

BTW, there is a PowerHouse list powerh-l at [log in to unmask] I
can't seem to find the format of the subscribe message however you might
try a message with a blank subject and put subscribe powerh-l <yourname> in
the body.

If you do find a JCW or system variable solution to this problem, I'd be
interested in knowing what you find.

Thanks!
