Hmm, I have had SAMBA working here for several years. It seems to work
pretty well. Come to think of it, there were some issues in getting it
configured correctly though in the beginning.
Now at least you have a Plan B. It sounds like if the CurlFTPfs trying does
not work out (or if you have to modify source code to get it going), you
could use a combination of SAMBA on the HP 3000, and FTP site stream to do
what you'd like to do. With the limited understanding of what you are trying
to accomplish that I have so far, that would be my first choice I think.
Do I understand correctly that there is no requirement to run things
initiated on the HP 3000 executing a program on the Centos computer?

No. I also need to use some site commands to stream the remote
processing tasks and monitor the results. Besides which, I am
reluctant to undertake the work required to configure SAMBA on the
HP3000 to work, assuming that it is already installed and available.
