You might want to hang on to that one; it might have value
as a collector's item..... ;-)

> Seriously, what's the best route for getting the new version?

Well........ that question may be a little harder to answer; it's
one of those "it depends" things. Example: As a US Navy
site we normally order all our HP stuff through the HP Federal
Business Center in Rockville, MD. Until a few months ago the
availability of the August 1997 version of the manual had not
made it into their database yet: When I first called them earlier
this year, they kept trying to tell me that the April '94 version
was still current. After they realized I wasn't going to believe
them, I eventually got to where they would take the order for the
August '97 edition.

AND: If you have a current HP software support contract that
includes IMAGE, you can *probably* get HP to send you *one*
copy at no cost under your support agreement....

EXCEPT: If you have Image/SQL the HP support coverage
database did not (at least earlier this year) recognize that
TurboIMAGE was part of Image/SQL (.... sigh....). so they
did not want to give me *just* the TurboIMAGE manual under
our support agreement....

BUT: The Federal Business Center *was* willing to send me
another complete copy of the core manual set (whatever that
might include). I said, "sure, let's give that a try"; crossing my
fingers to see if the core manual set part number knew that it
should include the Turbo manual even if the HP FBC did not.
Shortly thereafter I got one of my very own; along with extra
copies of all the other current core manuals....

SUMMARY: Any part of the HP sales organization that will
take your order for the Part Number 30391-90001, or will give
you one (with or without other manuals) under a support contract,
is probably as good a source as any. If they tell you April '94 is
current, then:

(1) Tell them they are wrong: You want August 1997.

(2) Please let me know. After my experience I rattled what I
hope were the appropriate cages, and the HP 3000 sales world
should now (I hope) be generally aware that the sixth edition
is out.

ANOTHER OPTION, if you are in no hurry and are on HP support:

The TurboIMAGE manual is part of the core HP 3000 manual set.
Core manuals are sent out (or at least supposed to be) with all
push releases. When MPE/iX 6.0 comes out you should get one
then. If you are not on support, you'll have to fork over the $$....
