Craig,
I have done a gatedown on the spurious gateway, no help.
stopped/restarted the network, no help. The IP_NI pool is now nice and low, but still no VPN access, cant even ping 5.40 from a vpn connected pc, but can ping all other devices in the 5 subnet.

One odd thing is the gatelist in nettool shows the ONLY gateway (5.1) as NOT the default gateway, but it is gateway1, and it does show @ access...? Is that an oddity of the nettool ?

thanks
jp

John,

I have seen this happen when the buffer overflows. You can try

NETCONTROL NET=xxx;UPDATE=INTERNET

I hate to say it, but stoping and starting the network may help as well.

Now I see that whenever he tries to connect with reflections, I get the following msgs (several attempts ). The gateway to the site (5.1) is a Fortigate firewall, and its doing the vpns as well. With the vpn connected he can see anything inside 5. Subnet, EXCEPT the HP at 5.40.
